“The 1st Annual BRIN-NIED Workshop” was held on September 3 and 4 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Researcher Omura from the Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center participated. This workshop is a regular meeting aimed at strengthening the collaborative framework between the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the National Research Institute for Earthquake Disaster Resistance (NIED), and defining specific joint research topics; this marked its very first event.
On September 3, discussions to formulate joint research themes took place at BRIN Pusat in Jakarta, Indonesia (Photo 1). In the first half of the session, researchers from each institution gave presentations on their research, and in the second half, participants divided into groups based on research topics to exchange opinions on specific proposals for joint research (Photo 2).
On September 4, the group toured disaster prevention research facilities in the Bandung area. First, the group visited the earthquake observation station located in Lembang, north of Bandung (Photo 3), where they received a briefing on BRIN’s earthquake monitoring efforts. The group then traveled to Mount Tangkuban Perahu, where they took a walk near the active crater while receiving an explanation of the current status of volcanic activity in the Bandung area. In the afternoon, the group headed to Stone Mountain in central-eastern Lembang to inspect the landslide observation and early warning system installed there.
