About us
E-Defense is one of the world’s leading facilities capable of conducting full-scale destructive tests on structures using a 20m × 15m shaking table that can reproduce earthquake motions in three dimensions.
The shaking table can recreate the ground motions recorded during major earthquakes, such as the 1995 Kobe Earthquake and the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, allowing experiments to evaluate damage to buildings and interiors, including ten-story buildings and individual houses. -
Research
From a single structure multiplied by a single earthquake, pursuing the “individual,” to groups of structures together with the ground, multiplied by several earthquakes, while also considering tsunami, fire, and even floods, leading to expansion toward the “urban” scale.
The aim is to create and openly share high-quality data, and to build global consensus on experimental planning (ideas) to achieve this.
