The 9th Asian Conference on Earthquake Engineering (9ACEE) has been held from 4. May to 6. May. at The Soaltee Kathmandu, Autograph Collection, in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (ACEE) was initiated to create a dedicated platform in Asia for dialogue and cooperation among earthquake engineering professionals. Since its inception, ACEE has served as a meeting point for advancing research, sharing lessons from damaging earthquakes, and translating new knowledge into safer buildings, infrastructure, and communities. The conference featured six keynote lectures and 20 parallel sessions on a wide range of topics, from fundamental research to social implementation in earthquake, seismic, and disaster prevention engineering.
\nFrom Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center of NIED, Dr. Fujiwara and Dr. Nishi attended the conference, have presentations and exchanged views with researchers from around the world.
\nFor the research presentations, we organized a special session titled \u201cLarge-scale Seismic Testing on Suspended Nonstructural Systems,\u201d based on the international joint research project \u201cInternational Seismic Testing Platform of Suspended Non-structural Components and Systems\u201d conducted by NIED, Japan, National Institutes of Applied Research (NIAR), Taiwan, and Seismic Research and Test Center (SESTEC), South Korea. In this session, we reported on the \u201clarge-scale shake table tests on ceilings, equipment, and other components replicating the layout of an actual building,\u201d which were conducted last year at the Tainan Laboratory of the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taiwan.
\nIn this session, three presentations were given from Taiwan, two from South Korea, and two from Japan by Dr. Fujiwara and Dr. Nishi, reporting the results of the international collaborative research test. Dr. Fujiwara introduced the testing plan and overview of observed damage of the test specimen, and Dr. Nishi reported responses of non-structural components. After the presentation, the responses and damage of non-structural components were actively discussed, and high interest on that research topic was seen.
